Original Post August 2, 2018:

It’s been 4 years in the making to expand Gulley Park since the 2014 acquisition of additional land by the city. It’s been 2 years since the master plan was released to add a splash pad at Gulley Park. Soon it could take a step towards new development! Northwest Arkansas is talking about this NWA news going on in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Fayetteville is seeking public input and possible grant for splash pad at Gulley Park. The original master plan for development of Gulley Park in Fayetteville, AR has been revised after community input and is once again being put to the public for feedback. The new master plan pictured above includes the long awaited splash pad and improved community facilities.

City Council members are set to consider applying for a $250,000 grant from the Arkansas Parks and Tourism Department to help fund the splash pad and interactive fountain at the east Fayetteville park.

The 50/50 matching grant would come from the state department’s Outdoor Recreation Grants Program.

Along with the new splash pad, a new activity area would be built for toddlers and seniors to enjoy, and a new shaded outdoor pavilion with a soft-surface floor.

According the city documentation Gulley Park is the 2nd most visited park in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

In late 2014, the City of Fayetteville expanded Gulley Park with the acquisition of a ten-acre parcel on the park's north side. This prompted the city to begin in 2016 a master plan for the park including possible additions: splash pad, renovated pond area, new pavilion & restroom facility, expanding parking, & dog park.

The Fayetteville Flyer states this kind of grant has been a widely used form of funding for expanding the city’s public spaces: “Fayetteville has in the past used funds from the program to acquire parkland or make improvements at several parks, including Doc Mashburn Park, Sweetbriar Park, Bryce Davis Park, Braden Park, Grinders Skate Park at Walker Park, Gulley Park, Wilson Park, Veterans Memorial Park, and the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks.”

Council members are set to consider the application at the next regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7 inside City Hall room 219.

The NWA community can give their input online at the city's website: Gulley Park Comment Form Summer 2018
